Mahiyangana Chaitya is among the most revered Buddhist sites in Sri Lanka and thought to be, first stupa in the island. Placed in the picturesque setting of Mahiyangana by the Mahaweli River, it is considered be the place that Lord Buddha visited during his first visit to Sri Lanka. The dazzlingly white stupa, bordered by an abundance of greenery, is a testament to peace and devotion as well as the island’s rich spiritual history.
